Racetams: Piracetam vs Oxiracetam vs Phenylpiracetam and More

Piracetam is often considered the first nootropic, synthesized in the 1964 it is also one of the most widely studied. It is cheap, has very few side effects, and has the research to prove it is effective. Its discovery led Dr. Corneliu Giurgea to coin the term “nootropic.” As the years have passed, many more substances in the racetam family have been discovered, many of which are many times more powerful than piracetam itself.oxiracetam powder

Nootropics Depot offers a sampler of a number of the advanced racetams. Different ones are more effective depending on the person, so a single recommendation is not possible.Previous research has suggested that dyslexics treated with piracetam have shown improvements in reading skills, verbal memory and verbal conceptualizing ability, feature analysis, and processing of letter-like stimuli….Piracetam-treated children showed significant improvements in reading ability (Gray Oral Reading Test) and reading comprehension (Gilmore Oral Reading Test). Treatment effects were evident after 12 weeks and were sustained for the total period (36 weeks). [1
The effect of piracetam, a cyclical derivative of GABA, was compared with that of a placebo in a double-blind study of 60 patients with post-concussional syndrome of 2-12 months’ duration. The daily dose of piracetam was 4,800 mg. After 8 weeks of treatment piracetam significantly reduced the occurrence and severity of the following symptoms: vertigo, headache, tiredness, decresed [sic] alertness, increased sweating and neurasthenic symptoms. No significant effect was observed on the following symptoms: tremor, orthostatic symptoms, and memory disorders. Side effect were reported by 64% of the patients under piracetam and by 32% under placebo. In the author’s opinion, piracetam seems to be a promising new drug for the treatment of post-concussional syndrome.
