NBA 2K20 Review: Doncic and Porzingis make the Mavs fun again
The Dallas Mavericks officially begin the 2019-2020 regular season
in a little less than three weeks from now, meaning that the fan base
will finally get to watch Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis begin their
push for the playoffs. Mavs training camp is underway as we speak (our
guys Mike Fisher and Matt Galatzan give a review of Day 1 here), and
preseason play is less than a week away.

In the meantime, though, fans can continue to build an idea of what
this team might look like in live action by playing with the Mavs in NBA
2K20.As a big self-proclaimed fan of the 2K franchise, I can honestly
say that this year's game is the most fun I've had playing with the Mavs
in a long time. Doncic and Porzingis both having 87-overall ratings is a
big reason why. For context, the Mavs highest rated player in last
year's game was DeAndre Jordan, who was labeled with an 86-overall
rating. That rating, as we found out through the 2018-2019 season,
always seemed to be generous (Jordan now has an 81-overall rating in
2K20).
The chemistry that we're all hoping for and expect to see from
Doncic and Porzingis this season already exists in the virtual 2K world.
Both players' games mesh together perfectly, giving the Mavs a fighting
chance against any other team in the game. Simply put, it's just easier
to do cool things with Mavs this time around.
Is the rest of the roster not having a great game? That's okay,
because Doncic and Porzingis are more than capable of shouldering the
load in 2K20.Overall, 2K remains king when it comes to high-quality
graphics and gameplay, despite not always being perfect. Believe it or
not, there was a time when NBA Live was the go-to basketball video game,
but those days are long gone. Until EA Sports decides to put the same
amount of resources into NBA Live that it does for FIFA, 2K will
continue to basically hold a monopoly in this field.
