Leading the Chiefs by a point with less than two minutes remaining, Baltimore appeared to be in a bad spot. Kansas City had the ball inside the Ravens’ 40 and still had all three of its timeouts. The Chiefs only had to stay in position to kick a game-winning field goal, which appeared inevitable given their late-game experience from the last three seasons. But Ravens outside linebacker Odafe Oweh sneaked into the "B" gap on a rushing attempt by Clyde Edwards-Helaire, punched the ball loose and then recovered it, giving Baltimore possession with 1:20 left. After a 2-yard rush by quarterback Lamar Jackson on fourth-and-1, the Ravens escaped with a 36-35 victory at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday night.
Kansas City has split its first two games of the season for the first time since 2016, while Baltimore avoided its first 0-2 start since 2016.
The Ravens were boosted by an incredible rushing effort: 251 yards and three touchdowns between five different runners. Jackson led the group with 16 carries for 107 yards and two scores. He also completed 18 of 26 passes for 239 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. The ground game helped Baltimore overcome an electric passing effort by Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes, who threw for 343 yards to nine different targets. The Chiefs, however, squandered an 11-point lead in the second half. Mahomes threw an interception in the third quarter and Kansas City did not score in the fourth.
It was Mahomes’ first September interception in his career. He previously tossed 37 touchdowns without a pick.
The Chiefs will return home to face the Chargers next Sunday while the Ravens will travel to face the Lions. 11:18 p.m.: FUMBLE. With Kansas City in range for a field goal, holding possession with all three of its timeouts, running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire fumbled at the Ravens' 32-yard line, giving Baltimore back the football leading by one.
11:08 p.m.: Jackson kept the football on a read option and scored a one-yard touchdown. He's up to 103 rushing yards on 22 attempts with two touchdowns. Baltimore now leads 36-35 with 3:14 left in the fourth quarter after it failed on a two-point conversion. 10:54 p.m.: Ravens cornerback Anthony Averett recorded a crucial pass breakup on Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill on third-and-9, giving Baltimore the football back at its 36-yard line down by five with 11:23 to go.
10:45 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN BALTIMORE. Jackson rushed for a two-yard touchdown, cutting the Ravens' deficit to 35-30 with 14:13 left in the fourth quarter. Baltimore converted a two-point attempt to Brown, though it was called back after an ineligible man downfield penalty on offensive guard Kevin Zeitler. Jackson's ensuing pass was intercepted.
10:37 p.m.: INTERCEPTION. Baltimore cornerback Tavon Young picks off Mahomes to regive the Ravens the football at their 44-yard line. This was Mahomes' first interception of the season.
