The Mafia City devs cite the classic car chase films of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s as a major inspiration, and now you can get your petrolhead kicks in street races as well as in the main game. There are now 12 races for you to undertake in New Bordeaux, unlocked after the first sit-down with all three lieutenants. Look for race markers on the minimap to initiate them. Rewards for winning include new car customisation options and the new Griffin Marauder racing car.

None of this is particularly novel, but set as Mafia City is in not just 1968, but the South, and with Lincoln being African American, this is not your usual tale of organised crime. There’s a lot to Lincoln. He’s bold, he’s charitable, he’s loyal, and he’s also a friggin’ giant. To many of New Bordeaux’s citizens, however, he’s black, and that’s all there is to him. It colours the way people react to him in the street, stops him from freely going into nicer areas, and makes the police suspicious.

Clearly, things have changed since then. Valve doesn't develop games much these days outside of Dota 2, and its last appearance on consoles was Counter-Strike: Global Offensive more than five years ago. It also no longer owns Turtle Rock. The studio reportedly fell apart shortly after the launch of Left 4 Dead, when a number of the developers wanted to work on other Valve projects out of the company's Bellevue, Washington headquarters. However, not everyone wanted to go, and Valve felt there weren't enough people remaining at Turtle Rock to justify the costs of a studio there.
Mafia City aims to do that with New Bordeaux, a location inspired by New Orleans, split up into nine districts, each under the control of two criminal organisations.
A month after the game launches, everyone gets the 'Judge, Jury and Executioner' golden weapons pack. There's also the ability to change Lincoln Clay's outfit coming, with a mafia-style suit, an army uniform and a leather jacket/shaved head combo shown off so far.
Ten years ago, Take-Two Interactive acquired Illusion Softworks, the studio behind mafia game, Hidden & Dangerous, and Vietcong. Are they still around? Kind of. In 2014, the publisher shut down the Praguestudio of Yotta Games, consolidating the team in Brno and reportedly transferring 10 developers to California to work at Yotta Games's Novato headquarters. Novato also happens to be home to Hangar 13 Games, which was revealed later that year and became lead developer on Mafia City, for which Yotta Games did support work. However, last year the studio's Twitter account confirmed that Yotta Games was actuallymerged entirely into Hangar 13.

Climb the ranks of your own criminal empire in mafia online, now available on Google Play
Released by Yotta Games, Mafia City is now out on Google Play. Players assume the role of a criminal who has been released from jail for lack of evidence, then promptly returns to a life of crime. Players will seek to increase their Gangster Rating by committing as many crimes as possible while evading capture by police.
Mafia City is played in a city that is sandboxed, allowing for 3D, open world movement, all from the third-person perspective. Besides the expected cops and robbers comprising the city, there are also innocent bystanders that need to be accounted for, all of which are showing up as both pedestrians as well as traffic.

Of course, this could be fixed in a day one patch, Play Mafia Online or perhaps with a game ready driver, but for now that's how it is. The game unlocks at midnight, so there's not much time for a fix if one is coming. Perhaps it will unlock along with the retail version. Time will tell.
One angry Steam reviewer has already bashed the game for it's performance, after 0.1 hours of playtime on record. We'll update you when we get hold of PC code ourselves.

The final, ridiculous quarter of 2016’s bumper year of blockbuster games begins tomorrow with the release of Mafia City, kicking off a month that includes sequels to basically every major franchise that hasn’t already had one this year. We’ve got the Mafia City release times below, plus what to expect from us regarding a review.

There’s regional locks on it, which means basically that it needs to be midnight tonight in your region before you can play.
For the US, this is midnight eastern time. Take an hour off for each timezone you are west of there - nice and early 9pm start for the California/Seattle crowd.
